Lewis has plenty of options for ‘an old guy’

Today, I had an opportunity to talk to Ray Lewis, All-Pro linebacker and all-planet leader. In my mind, Lewis finds himself in an unprecedented position for a player over the age of 30.

His position is unique because the NFL is renowned for throwing 30-something players on the scrapheap. But three teams are in desperate need of the nine-time Pro Bowl player, who will be an unrestricted free agent.

Baltimore Ravens: Mark my words, the Ravens will crash and burn if they lose Lewis and defensive coordinator Rex Ryan in the same offseason. Ray not only is a great player, but he is a coach on the field who can match intellects with any offensive coordinator in the league. The Ravens effectively would lose two defensive coordinators.

New York Jets: It will take new head coach Ryan a couple of seasons to install the full complement of his “organized chaos” defense. Lewis would exponentially accelerate the learning curve. He would get players in the correct position in real-time.

Dallas Cowboys: LEADERSHIP! ‘Nuff said!
