Sproles wants to stay in SD, but will test market

Chargers RB Darren Sproles has become a valuable commodity after his performances in San Diego’s last two postseasons. Given the recent success of Falcons RB Michael Turner, who also backed up RB LaDainian Tomlinson with the Chargers before a breakout year as a featured back in Atlanta, you can expect to find a number of interested teams courting the explosive Sproles.

Sproles told Casey Pearce of Chargers.com that he wants to remain in San Diego, but he’s also got to keep his own best interests in mind and check out what’s available.

“I want to stay in San Diego, but we have to wait and see what happens. Your second contract, that’s the one where you have a chance to take care of yourself and your family. I enjoy my teammates and love playing for the Chargers. We’ll just see how things go down.”

The Chargers also have a big decision to make on Tomlinson, though team president Dean Spanos told Gil Brandt that he wants to keep LT. The Chargers could be joining the rest of the NFL with the dreaded (at least for fantasy players) running back-by-committee approach.
