As the NFL Players Association continues paring down its candidates to succeed Gene Upshaw, the two names that continue to generate the most buzz are Trace Armstrong and Mike Kenn.
Both Armstrong and Kenn are former NFLPA presidents, and either would be a superb choice. Another former NFLPA president, Troy Vincent and attorney David Cornwell also are in the running, but some are skeptical whether either of those candidates will be able to land the top job.
There are other lesser-known candidates that are said to be viable. But the two names to watch right now are Armstrong and Kenn. The NFLPA is hoping to elect Upshaw’s successor at its annual meeting in March. Until it does, the NFLPA’s general counsel, Richard Berthelsen, will continue acting as the executive director.
