USC hires Bates as offensive coach

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that former Broncos quarterback coach Jeremy Bates will be the new assistant head coach for offense for the University of Southern California. Bates, who tutored Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, also will call the plays for USC’s offense for coach Pete Carroll.
- Carroll described Bates as “one of the young, unbelievably bright minds in the NFL” who wants to become a head coach and saw USC as “a great place to come and get that done.”
Bates is 32-years old, and judging by some of the recent NFL coaching hires, he might be getting a little too old for the job.
