Prospective Browns general manager George Kokinis met with new coach Eric Mangini and his staff on Monday, but left without a contract according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The website is reporting that a formal announcement could be made later this week. Mangini is skipping the Senior Bowl this week while huddling with Kokinis.
- As the pro personnel director of the Baltimore Ravens, one of Kokinis’ duties was to know the personnel of all Baltimore’s opponents, particularly in the AFC North division, from top to bottom. It’s probable that Kokinis has a greater understanding of the Browns’ roster than Mangini and his coordinators.
- Getting the lowdown from Kokinis was one reason Mangini elected to stay in his office and not attend the practices at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., this week. The Browns may be the only team in the NFL not represented by its head coach or general manager at the Senior Bowl, which is the top college all-star game of the scouting season.
The Browns have the fifth overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft.
