Spanos, LT talk

Rumors about LaDainian Tomlinson‘s future in San Diego continue to swirl. And those rumors have traveled all the way up to team president Dean Spanos, who recently talked to the Chargers’ star running back as first reported by Bill Johnston on Chargers.com. Spanos said it’s important to keep emotions out of the decision and that everything will be taken into consideration.
- “We talked about the situation and I just tried to explain everything that must be considered,” said Spanos. “I told him we haven’t even started our discussions and won’t for awhile, so don’t jump to any conclusions. And I told him I would call him personally to make sure he’s aware of everything that’s going on.”
When questions about coach Norv Turner‘s future surfaced after the Chargers’ 4-8 start, the organization was quick to diminish those thoughts. This is the opposite. Is there a chance that Tomlinson won’t play for the Chargers next season?
- “I wish we knew the answers to all of these questions now, but we don’t,” said General Manager A.J. Smith. “We want our evaluation process to be as thorough as possible. We always start with open minds and with the same goal every year: put together the team that gives us the best chance to bring a championship to San Diego.”
The Chargers also have questions about soon-to-be-free-agent Darren Sproles, plus looming contract extensions for Shawne Merriman and Philip Rivers. It should be an interesting offseason in San Diego.
