Saints hire Williams as defensive coordinator

One of the NFL’s most sought-after defensive coordinators has a new job.
Former Jaguars assistant head coach Gregg Williams agreed Wednesday to become the New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator.
It might turn out to be the Saints’ biggest offseason acquisition, with Williams expected to repair the defense that struggled under Gary Gibbs.
Williams also had the chance to go to Green Bay as the Packers’ defensive coordinator and, if Jim Schwartz landed a head-coaching job, could have been the successor in Tennessee. But Williams opted for New Orleans.
