His name came up in connection to the head-coaching job in Kansas City, and now it apparently can be shot down. Those familiar with Iowa and Kirk Ferentz’s thinking said Thursday that even if Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli wanted to hire the coach, they don’t think he could.
Thus, there is one fewer name involved in the mystery that is the Chiefs’ head-coaching situation. Pioli said he wants to speak with Chiefs coach Herm Edwards. Many believe strong consideration will be given to Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Pioli also could consider Dolphins defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni.
But one thing is coming into focus. Unlike many of the underclassmen who have made their decisions in recent days. Ferentz isn’t ready to turn pro.
