Saying hello to “Mr. Commissioner”

The Commissioner is in the building.
I made sure to call Roger Goodell “Mr. Commissioner” this time. The first time I met him, he caught me off guard. He tapped me on the shoulder while I was texting someone on the sidelines, and I called him Roger. I was mortified and made fun of by my colleagues for weeks. I later apologized to him, to which his response was, “Don’t worry about it. People have definitely called me worse things.”
We had the most interesting elevator ride up to the press box. It was our crew, Rush Limbaugh, NFL Executive VP of Communications and Public Affairs Joe Browne and some Steelers fans. The end of the Eagles-Giants game was on in the lobby as we waited for the elevator, and I think everyone was suppressing the urge to ask Limbaugh what he thinks of Donovan McNabb now. By the way, “Mr. Commissioner” took the stairs.
