Fans, not music, firing up Chargers’ linebackers

Ty Law, producer Ed O’Brien and I are on the field for pregame, and we’re amused by the Chargers’ linebackers, who are getting fired up by yelling at the Steelers’ fans. Shawne Merriman is acting like a player/coach, although you can tell it’s killing him to not be out there in a uniform. Shaun Phillips is ready to hit someone (I won’t use his exact words).

It’s amazing to see how small Chargers RB Darren Sproles is next to his lineman. You can see how he could be difficult to spot as a defender.

Ty is remarking how good the pregame warmup music is. He was comparing it to New England and how different it is. “They are still playing Cotton-Eyed Joe up there,” he says. “How are you supposed to get fired up to play listening to Cotton-Eyed Joe?”
