Speculation persists about whether Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson will be suspended for Sunday’s game for his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
But there are a couple of key distinctions to be made. For starters, the NFL cannot suspend Jackson for this weekend and would not suspend him — not until his legal process is complete. In most cases, the league does not act until the legal process is completed.
The Chargers, on the other hand, reserve the right to take whatever action they feel appropriate. They could fine Jackson, suspend him, or bench him to start the game — basically, they can do whatever they want. If any action is taken before Sunday’s game, it will come from San Diego, not the NFL.
