Some Sunday morning samplings from around the NFL:
- Despite the fact that former Jets coach Eric Mangini is being touted as the front-runner for the Cleveland head-coaching job, remember this: Browns owner Randy Lerner is very unpredictable. He often goes against just what everybody is expecting. Just saying …
- If Mangini does get the Cleveland job, let this serve as a warning to any holdover Browns assistant coaches. The prevailing thought amongst Jets assistant coaches is that few enjoyed working for Mangini. Perhaps being fired will force him to change some ideas and philosophies — it often does. But Manigni was harldy the most well-liked guy in the Jets’ training complex.
- As much as the Jets and Broncos like Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, he has a disadvantage that he can’t help. No one can sign him until after Giants are finished with their season.
- Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera is working himself back into the running for a head-coaching job. The way his defense slowed down the Colts on Saturday night was the finest advertisement Rivera could get for head-coaching interviews.
