Marinelli visits Chicago

Former Lions coach Rod Marinelli spent the past few seasons visiting Chicago and he did it again Friday.

Marinelli spent Friday meeting with Bears coach Lovie Smith, his former roommate in Tampa Bay. Marinelli has an opportunity to go coach with the Bears this season, but he also the chance to visit other teams with other opportunities.

It’s presumed that Marinelli could return to Tampa Bay if he wanted. But Marinelli also has one year left on his contract with Detroit, so he always could opt to sit out the 2009 season. But Marinelli likes coaching too much, and it would be too hard to sit, so Chicago becomes a possible, if not a likely, a landing spot.

But no decisions will be made until early next week, at the earliest.
