Jets to interview coordinator Brian Schottenheimer

Now that the Bill Cowher-to-the-Jets talk has simmered down, the speculation of Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer getting the job can perk up.
Schottenheimer will interview for the head coaching job later this week, before New York sits down with Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, according to league sources. New York has valued Schottenheimer before. When the Miami Dolphins offered Schottenheimer their head coaching job two years ago, the Jets sweetened their contract to entice Schottenheimer to stay.
Last year, Schottenheimer was a finalist for the Baltimore Ravens head coaching job that eventually went to John Harbaugh. Now the Jets are going to take a long, hard look at Schottenheimer, despite the up-and-down performance of the team’s offense this season. He is still regarded league-wide as one of the bright young minds.
There has also been talk that the Jets have contacted former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan. Maybe they will, but to date they have not.
