Texans fire three defensive coaches

The fallout for one of the league’s worst defenses came down in Houston on Tuesday. The Texans announced three defensive coaches — defensive coordinator Richard Smith, defensive backs coach Jon Hoke and defensive line coach Jethro Franklin — were fired.

The Texans ranked 27th in the league in scoring defense (24.6 ppg) and 22nd in total yards allowed per game (336.6). Smith completed his third season as the Texans’ defensive coordinator in 2008. The Texans have ranked in the bottom third of the league in both categories the last three seasons.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak will hold a news conference today at 2:30 p.m. ET.
