Lions looking for another personnel man

When Detroit announced that interim general manager Martin Mayhew and chief operating officer Tom Lewand would be staying with the team, it sent a message that they were unwilling to spend the money it would take to try to lure away New England’s Scott Pioli.
But the Lions would still like to add another personnel man to complete their triangle of power. One name to watch is Eagles general manager Tom Heckert, the runner-up to Thomas Dimitroff in Atlanta last offseason and the man whom Philadelphia denied the chance to become the Vikings general manager.
Minnesota couldn’t get Heckert, but Detroit could.
An interesting subplot to this scenario that likely will not have any affect is that Heckert’s ex-wife is the daughter of the Lions’ lawyer. But what could be an awkward situation would not be a factor, with both sides being as professional as they are.
