Winless Lions set mark for futility

The infamy at the end of the tunnel became reality for the Lions on Sunday, as they became the NFL’s first 0-15 team with a 42-7 home loss to the Saints. The Lions eclipsed the previous marks of futility set by two teams. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 0-14 during their inaugural season in 1976, while the New Orleans Saints started the 1980 season 0-14.
Lions coach Rod Marinelli was asked during his postgame news conference what it meant to be the first 0-15 team, responding, “I’ll let the record speak for itself.”
The Lions, who are 10-25 in two-plus seasons under Marinelli, have now lost 22 of their last 23 games.
