Cards turn to Leinart with game out of hand

If the Cardinals lose this game — and let’s be honest here, it’s not looking so good — they will have lost four of their last five games. If you are wondering how much they’re paying Matt Leinart to sit on the bench, his base salary is $735,000. With bonuses, he could make over $6 million this year. His current line on the year as of the end of the third quarter vs. the Patriots: 4-for-9, 43 yards and no touchdowns. That includes 0-for-2 in this game, with two sacks and a lost fumble. Here are more notes from the press box:

  • It’s still early, but if this score stands 41-0, it would match the largest shutout victory in Patriots history. Forty-seven years ago this week, they shut out the Chargers 41-0. Even Junior Seau wasn’t there for that one.
  • It’s really hard to believe that one of these teams is going to the playoffs, and one may not … and the one that may not is up by 41 points. The Cardinals have now been outscored 73-14 in the last game and a half. If this was last year, people would be asking if the Patriots should really be running up the score.
  • If I could ask Ken Whisenhunt one question right now, it would be this: Why is Kurt Warner still in the game? I’m curious what he would say. The snow seems to be turning over to freezing rain, always a crowd favorite.
