Marinelli facing the (elevator) music

It’s a safe bet that Lions coach Rod Marinelli has faced nearly every type of question from the media during the course of an 0-14 season. As the Lions approach Sunday’s game against the Saints, Marinelli’s media session on Thursday didn’t stray far from the topic of the infamy that would come with the NFL’s first 0-15 record.
To that end, Marinelli was asked Thursday what he tells his team regarding the national attention they’re receiving as they close in on a possible winless season. His answer was pretty priceless.
“Well, are you really asking me this? Do you really want to hear the answer?” Marinelli said.
“What I always do, and it’s just me, certain things are meaningless to me. Certain things are like elevator music and this is elevator music to me. I don’t mean that offensively to you, but it is. I get in the elevator, go up to four or five, I don’t remember the music that was playing. As soon as I leave here, I don’t remember it.”
Marinelli was then asked what he thinks about when he hears a joke or comment made about his Lions on television.
“Elevator music,” he responded.
Then the next question: Is it funny elevator music?
“I don’t know,” he said, laughing. “I don’t listen.”
Good stuff out of Detroit. You have to credit Marinelli for keeping his sense of humor.
