Titans’ Haynesworth soon to be a free agent
Published: December 17th, 2008 | Tags: Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee Titans
Not that there ever was any doubt he would become an unrestricted free agent after this season, but Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth made it official.
When Haynesworth was named to this season’s Pro Bowl team, Tennessee no longer could slap its franchise tag on him.
And take a look at the four clauses in Haynesworth’s contract.
- Make the Pro Bowl
- Play 60 percent of the defensive snaps (which he easily would have done)
- Play 53 percent of the defensive snaps and the Titans win 10 games (another no-brainer)
- Play 53 percent of the defensive snaps and the Titans finish in the top five in the NFL in total defense (Tennessee is fourth now).
So, even in this tough economic climate, Haynesworth is weeks away from cashing in. Big time.
