Collins’ success tied to Heimerdinger

The one tie between Steve McNair‘s MVP season in 2002 and Kerry Collins‘ MVP-type season is Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger.

The players have changed, the front office has flipped, and so have many of the offensive assistant coaches. But Heimerdinger is the constant.

Heimerdinger left the Titans after 2002 to work with the Jets, before returning to Tennessee this season after a stint with the Broncos. This season, he has elevated the play of Collins and the Titans offense, and it likely will garner him attention for teams looking for offensive-minded head coaches this off-season.
