Raiders coach Tom Cable updated the status of JaMarcus Russell following Thursday’s 34-7 loss, saying the quarterback had a sprained right ankle and that X-rays taken following the injury were negative.
Russell was injured late during the second quarter when he was hit by Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips after throwing an interception. He stayed on the sideline as team trainers checked the ankle, but was later carted to the locker room. Russell completed 9-of-13 passes for 68 yards, threw two interceptions and also lost a fumble.
Backup Andrew Walter replaced Russell, finishing 8-of-17 for 61 yards and an interception.
