Players sound off for Singletary

Mike Singletary is hoping he’ll get a chance to keep his job as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. And while he has the players on his side, nothing is definite.

Tom FitzGerald of the San Francisco Chronicle explains what it will take for Singeltary to keep his job.

Nobody except the York family knows how the 49ers’ head-coaching decision is going to be reached. Nobody but the owners know what interim coach Mike Singletary has to do to win the job. If the 49ers beat, say, Miami and St. Louis on the road, would four wins in his nine games be good enough?

Singletary said Monday he hopes the improvement of his team will be enough to convince the Yorks because he doesn’t plan to spell out every incremental step the 49ers made on his watch.

“When it’s all said and done, I really won’t try to make a case,” he said. “Hopefully the case is set.” More
