McNabb will start in Thankgiving night game

Despite being benched in Sunday’s miserable 36-7 loss to the Ravens, Donovan McNabb will start for the Eagles when they play host to the NFC West-leading Cardinals on Thanksgiving (on NFL Network, 8 p.m. ET), Eagles coach Andy Reid announced on Monday.

“This has nothing to do with Kevin Kolb‘s performance or Donovan’s performance,” Reid said.

McNabb was benched at halftime during Sunday’s loss in Baltimore and replaced by Kolb, the Eagles’ second-round draft pick in the 2007 draft. McNabb was 8-for-18 for 59 yards, with two interceptions and a fumble — a miserable 13.2 passer rating. Kolb didn’t perform much better, completing 10 of 23 passes for 73 yards and two interceptions — including a record-setting 108-yard return for a touchdown by Ed Reed.

There were a number of key Eagles players who missed practice on Monday, and their status for Thursday’s game remains uncertain.

  • Correll Buckhalter sat out with an MCL sprain.
  • Asante Samuel is out with a stinger.
  • Brian Westbrook was sidelined due to swelling on the knee and the sore ankle.
  • Shawn Andrews is out with a back injury.
