News not good on Clinton Portis

If Clinton Portis is on your fantasy team, you should be preparing to be without him this week.
During an interview on John Thompson’s radio show, it was revealed that Portis has a second-degree MCL sprain in his left knee that is causing him pain and won’t allow him to straighten his leg. He still hopes to play against the Cowboys, but it’s not looking very good.
The veteran back isn’t expected to practice all week.
The Washington Post reports that coach Jim Zorn said on his radio show that Ladell Betts has a better chance to be active. Zorn also said that Betts is nowhere near 100 percent, however, so he’s a question mark as well.
Betts has missed several weeks of action due to an injured knee of his own.
With Portis and Betts in question, the Redskins (and fantasy owners) might have to turn to a familiar name — Shaun Alexander. But with Rock Cartwright also in the mix, Alexander is no lock to see the majority of the carries. In fact, it’s hard to recommend either back as more than a potential flex starter in most leagues.
Whatever the scenario, it’s a bad time for the top running back in fantasy land to be sidelined.
