Rams facing injuries, questions in backfield

Rams coach Jim Haslett is preparing to go with contingency plans in an injury-riddled backfield where the top three players on the depth chart — Steven Jackson (thigh), Antonio Pittman (hamstring) and Travis Minor (concussion) — all missed practice on Wednesday.
As of Wednesday, Haslett is looking at facing the Jets’ fourth-ranked run defense with Kenneth Darby, signed off the Falcons’ practice squad last month, as the likely starter. Samkon Gado, signed as a free agent on Tuesday, could be the top backup.
“I’m thinking right now that it’s Darby and Sam (Gado) are our two running backs,” said Haslett. “And then if the other three miraculously come around and play then we’ll be better for it. That’s how I’m going into it.”
Haslett said he considers Jackson “day to day” and listed as questionable, while he’ll wait until Friday before making a decision on the status of Pittman.
