Quinn’s promotion was a long time coming

The old saying goes that the most popular guy on the football team is the backup quarterback. And that certainly was true for Browns backup Brady Quinn. And according to Bill Livingston in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Quinn was a popular guy among the Browns’ front office. Quinn will get his first start of his NFL career against the Broncos on Thursday night.
- Still, Jim Brown, a team consultant, as well as the greatest player in Browns history, said weeks ago that there were members of the front office who wanted Quinn to get his chance. So who made the call? General Manager Phil Savage is considered a personnel guru and he drafted Quinn at substantial cost. He is the likeliest suspect. Except, as Kellen Winslow claims, Savage doesn’t “do” calls. MORE
