Football fans spend so much time voting on the NFL’s Pro Bowl teams, NFL.com’s random reader polls, or even the non-football, football-like Dancing With The Stars.

They vote for Jerry Rice, they vote for Emmitt Smith, they vote for Jason Taylor and now they vote for Warren Sapp — and by the way, we’re not supposed to tell people who to vote for, but vote Warren!

Anyway, for one day, it we need to suspend all other voting and vote either for Barack Obama or John McCain. One or the other. This is not an endorsement of either candidate — that’s your choice. This is endorsement to vote. Period.

We saw how important it was back in election 2000, when we got one of those presidentital races that was too close to call even when TV anchors tried to call it the right and couldn’t.

No one knew whether George Bush or Al Gore won, but we knew that every vote mattered. They matter again Tuesday. Do this country, and yourself, a favor.

Get out and vote.
