With starting LT Sam Baker already ruled out against the Raiders this week and veteran backup Todd Weiner battling knee problems, the Falcons brought back veteran free agent OT Wayne Gandy on Wednesday.
The move to sign Gandy, who played two seasons with the Falcons, comes a day after it was revealed Baker will see a pair of specialists to look at a hip injury that has not improved with treatment. Baker, a first-round draft pick, won the starting job in training camp. He was replaced last week by Weiner, who wasn’t able to finish the game after aggrivating a knee injury and was replaced by Quinn Ojinnaka.
Coach Mike Smith told Atlantafalcons.com that Weiner remains the top choice to start if he is completely healthy.
The Falcons also released TE Jason Rader and made two practice squad moves, signing DT J’Vonne Parker and releasing DE Sean Conover.
