Redskins’ Taylor to play … then have surgery

Despite being listed as questionable for today’s game against Detroit with a calf injury, Washington defensive end Jason Taylor will play Sunday, thenĀ undergo surgery Monday.
The Redskins consider the work that needs to be done on Taylor minor enough that they are not referring to it as surgery — but it is.
Taylor has been battling a calf injury since Sept. 21, when he got kicked in a game against the Arizona Cardinals. The next day, he had a mass of blood below his calf drained, and he missed two games. But the problems have remained, and Taylor wants to address them again.
And Taylor is not the only Redskin who will play hurt Sunday. Redskins running back Clinton Portis, who is listed as questionable with a hip injury, will start against the Lions.
