Titletown South

With Game 1 of the World Series starting tonight, Tampa should be excited about its team.

It has loads of young talent. It has a stellar defense that rarely makes mistakes. It has some strong arms on its roster and it has championship on its mind.

Somebody needs to let Tampa know that, these days, it’s not just the Rays playing at such a high level. It’s the Buccaneers, too.

Like the Rays, the Buccaneers are loaded with young talent, the product of good drafting.

Like the Rays, the Buccaneers boast a defense that is practically good enough to win games on its own.

Like the Rays, the Buccaneers never can have enough good arms so that if Brian Griese gets hurt Jeff Garcia can enter.

And like the Rays, the Buccaneers are good enough to win a championship.

People in Tampa might be too busy to notice. But outside Tampa, the football world has. Tampa is threatening to turn itself into the southern Titletown.
