Johnson to sit out for Chiefs; Croyle and Huard to IR

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said during his press conference Wednesday that RB Larry Johnson will be deactivated again this week and won’t play against the New York Jets. Johnson, who sat out last week for violating team rules, is currently under investigation by police for allegedly assaulting a woman.

“It’s my decision,” said Edwards.

Edwards said Koby Smith and rookie Jamaal Charles would again share the rushing duties in Johnson’s absence.

Edwards also named QB Tyler Thigpen the starter this week, and announced that Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard have both been placed on the injured-reserve list. The Chiefs are also in the process of completing paperwork to sign free agent QB Quinn Gray, but Edwards indicated the team might not be finished making moves.

“We’re not through looking at quarterbacks,” Edwards said.
