There’s always hope for 49ers fans

San Francisco can only hope that this in-season coaching change, its first since 1978, works out as well as the previous one.
Back in 1978, the 49ers fired Pete McCulley after his 1-8 start and replaced him, on an interim basis, with Fred O’Connor. But the next season, the 49ers located their full-time head coach and hired a gentleman by the name of Bill Walsh.
