In a surprising move, the New England Patriots have placed RB Laurence Maroney on injured reserve.
He will miss the rest of the season.
Maroney, who had been dealing with a bum shoulder, played in three games and rushed for 93 yards with no touchdowns. His numbers (or lack there of) were a huge disappointment for fantasy leaguers who expected him to break out after an impressive postseason run.
The value of Sammy Morris sees an enormous rise as a result of this move.
Morris, who had actually been a better fantasy option than Maroney this season despite being listed behind him on the depth chart, is still a free agent in over 20 percent of NFL.com leagues.
If he’s available, now is the time to add him.
LaMont Jordan will also see an increase in carries and warrants consideration in larger leagues once he’s back from an inured calf. Owners in larger leagues or PPR formats should also consider Kevin Faulk.
