Gruden names Garcia starter against Seahawks

It didn’t take long for Bucs coach Jon Gruden to name his starting quarterback this week. Gruden said during his Monday press conference Jeff Garcia will start against the Seahawks on Sunday. Garcia returned from injuries to start last week for the first time since Week 1 and was effecient, completing 75 percent of his passes for 173 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs’ 27-3 win over the Panthers.

“He’s going to start this week,” Gruden said. “If he continues to play like Jeff Garcia, he’s a Pro Bowl-caliber guy. OK? I’ll put it that way. Brian [Griese] has an injury, we need him back. We’re one of the few teams in football who has one games with two different quarterbacks at this stage of the game, and we’re proud of those guys. We like all our quarterbacks.”

Brian Griese, who started the next four games after the season opener, was deactivated in Week 6 because of an elbow injury he suffered against the Broncos.
