Overdue recognition for former Bills star Byrd

George “Butch” Byrd spent all but one of his eight NFL seasons as a cornerback for the Buffalo Bills. He was part of two AFL championship teams in the 1960s and holds franchise records for interceptions (40) and interceptions returned for touchdowns (five).

David Briggs of the Buffalo News reports that Byrd will be inducted this year into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.

“For Buffalo to honor me by saying I’m one of the better things to happen to that city, it’s great,” Byrd told the newspaper. “I just enjoyed the city and the people there immensely.” Full story
