Rams’ QB decisions questionable

St. Louis no longer believes Marc Bulger is good enough to start. But the Rams’ decisions on quarterbacks have been, at best, shaky.

Holt, Gonzalez on the trade block?

The two most interesting names to track as the trade deadline approaches both come from the state of Missouri — St. Louis wide receiver Torry Holt and Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez.

Chiefs president Carl Peterson insisted this week he will not trade Gonzalez, and cannot be persuaded to make any such type of deal.

Suspension could have cost Burress bonus money

Plaxico Burress should be thankful the Giants suspended him only one game. If New York wanted, it could pursue $6.5 million worth of bonus money in Burress’ contract, as well as escalators that would boost the wide receiver’s contract another $5 million, costing him another $11.5 million.

Bengals’ Palmer No. 3 QB vs. Browns

More info is filtering in on Carson Palmer and the elbow injury that is preventing him from playing today against Cleveland.

Palmer recently underwent an MRI that revealed inflammation but no structural damage.

Browns QB Quinn could see big bonus

If Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson struggles Sunday against Cincinnati, he is expected to be benched in favor of Browns backup Brady Quinn.

And while economic hardships have slammed this country, Quinn’s earning power is about to skyrocket if he is inserted into the lineup Sunday or anytime soon.

Vikings-Titans inactives

Vikings inactives: QB John David Booty (3rd), DB Madieu Williams, CB Marcus McCauley, RB Thomas Tapeh, LB Vinny Ciurciu, T Drew Radovich, FB Jeff Dugan, DE Ray Edwards.

Analysis: RBs Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor are active, but Peterson could see his work limited, like last week. WR Sidney Rice is active and will start against Tennessee.

Chiefs-Broncos inactives

Chiefs inactives: QB Brodie Croyle, QB Ingle Martin (3rd), CB Patrick Surtain, RB B.J. Sams, LB Napoleon Harris, LB Donnie Edwards, G Brian De La Puente, T Barry Richardson.

Analysis: QB Damon Huard will start in the absence of Croyle. He’s a viable one-week fantasy replacement based on the matchup vs. Denver’s 32nd-rated pass defense.

49ers-Saints inactives

49ers inactives: QB Jamie Martin (3rd), DB Marcus Hudson, DB Reggie Smith, CB Shawntae Spencer, LB Ahmad Brooks, C Cody Wallace, T Jonas Jennings, LB Tully Banta-Cain.

Analysis: WR Bryant Johnson is active and remains a viable No. 3 fantasy wideout.

Cardinals-Jets inactives

Cardinals inactives: QB Brian St. Pierre (3rd), SS Adrian Wilson , RB J.J. Arrington, T Brandon Keith, WR Early Doucet, TE Jermane Tuman, DE Bertand Berry, NT Gabe Watson.

Analysis: IDP leaguers need to find a replacement for Wilson, who is inactive.

The irony of Millen’s firing

There is an irony to the Matt Millen firing. The last head coach in Detroit that he let go, Dick Jauron, is on the verge of receiving a long-term contract extension in Buffalo.

The Bills and Jauron have had recent ongoing and amiable talks aimed at procuring an extension for the head coach now in the last year of his contract. It is likely to get done given Buffalo’s strong start and how players feel about Jauron.

Texans-Jaguars inactives

Texans inactives: DB Eugene Wilson, RB Ahman Green, DB Brandon Harrison, G Kasey Studdard, OT Rashad Butler, TE Mark Bruener, DT Tim Bulman, DE ND Kalu.

Analysis: RB Steve Slaton will start in the absence of Green and is a nice fantasy option with six teams on a bye. WR Kevin Walter is active and will start.

Packers-Buccaneers inactives

Packers inactives: QB Brian Brohm (3rd), SS Atari Bigby, RB Kregg Lumpkin, CB Al Harris, FB Korey Hall, T Breno Giacomini, WR James Jones, DE Jeremy Thompson.

Analysis: WR Jordy Nelson will serve as the Packers’ No. 3 wideout with Jones out of action.

Browns-Bengals inactives

Browns inactives: QB Ken Dorsey (3rd), WR Donte’ Stallworth, SS Sean Jones, LB Willie McGinest, LB Beau Bell, G Ryan Tucker, G Scott Young, TE Martin Rucker.

Analysis: Stallworth is out for the fourth consecutive week. WR Braylon Edwards is active and will start, as expected.

Falcons-Panthers inactives

Falcons inactives: 3rd QB DJ Shockley, WR Laurent Robinson, CB David Irons, LB Tony Gilbert , C Alex Stepanovich, T Sam Baker, DE Simon Fraser, TE Jason Raider.

Analysis: The Falcons’ O-line will be without Stepanovich and Baker, which makes QB Matt Ryan a riskier fantasy option.

Fantasy owners: Sit Palmer!

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Carson Palmer will be the emergency third quarterback for the Bengals today. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start and is now a viable fantasy option for desperate fantasy owners.
