Raiders to hold ‘significant’ press conference

The writing on the tea leaves is now in BIG BLOCK LETTERS.
The Oakland Raiders will hold a “significant” news conference this afternoon, which currently is scheduled forĀ 5 p.m. PT. Raiders owner Al Davis will be attending and speaking.
And if the Raiders are holding a “significant” news conference at which Mr. Davis is speaking, it is fair to assume that this will be the day that has been speculated about since February, when word first began to surface that Oakland head coach Lane Kiffin’s job was in jeopardy.
If so, it would mark the second straight day in which an NFL team has fired its head coach. Before yesterday, the last time a head coach was fired this early in the season was 1989, when Mr. Davis let go of Mike Shanahan, who had the same 1-3 record that Kiffin does now.
