Heinz Field was littered with the remains of broken running backs on Monday night.
The Steelers were already down Willie Parker heading into their game against Baltimore, so losing Rashard Mendenhall for the season puts a serious dent into their backfield depth. The rookie fractured his left shoulder during the overtime win and was placed on injured reserve.
With Parker’s status for Week 5 still uncertain, Mewelde Moore has sudden value in fantasy land. The versatile runner could see a real bump in carries against Jacksonville and is a viable option in most formats (especially PPR leagues).
Carey Davis also saw carries in Mendenhall’s absence, but he injured his left ankle and didn’t return.
The Steelers weren’t the only team to lose a running back in the contest.
Willis McGahee was sidelined for most of the second half after sustaining a chest injury. There’s been no word on whether the ailment will sideline or limit him this week, but adding Le’Ron McClain is now a solid move as insurance.
McClain rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown against Pittsburgh’s tough run defense. He now has three scores on the season — that’s more than Ryan Grant, Jamal Lewis and Steven Jackson combined.
