Cable fits mold of past Raiders coaches

Nobody should be overly surprised that Al Davis has tabbed Tom Cable as the Raiders’ next coach. Cable has a background that is consistent with Davis’ choices.

Cable is an offensive line coach, just as Art Shell was an offensive line coach, just as Bill Callahan was an offensive line coach, just as Joe Bugel was an offensive line coach. Even Lane Kiffin once was an offensive line coach at Colorado State.

Though Davis never has professed to targeting offensive line coaches, his history suggests otherwise. And now Raiders Nation can only hope Cable achieves some of the successes of his predecessors.
