Week 3 wide receiver investment index

Once again, the NFL is reminded that only players and agents fully win during free agency in March. Teams can’t.
Last offseason, one free agent wide receiver after another hit paydirt — the only kind they can at that time of the year.
Jacksonville signed free agent wide receiver Jerry Porter, Cleveland Donte Stallworth, Minnesota Bernard Berrian and Oakland Javon Walker.
Through three weeks of this season, the receivers that signed a combined $162 million worth of contracts — $162 million! — have caught eight passes for 135 yards. That’s it.
Now, it’s still early on, and each of these players has battled nagging or lingering injuries throughout training camp and into the regular season. These players still might provide a tremendous return on teams’ investments.
But so far, not so much.
