Vikings hit hard by injuries to receivers

It’s been a busy week in Minnesota, where coach Brad Childress benched QB Tarvaris Jackson in favor of veteran Gus Frerotte on Wednesday, and star RB Adrian Peterson sat out practice on Thursday with a hamstring injury.

Beyond the change at quarterback and questions at running back, the Vikings might have bigger problems at wide receiver. Three of the top four receivers were limited or missed practice on Thursday as the winless Vikings prepare for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Bernard Berrian (foot) and Aundrae Allison (foot) had limited participation during practice, while Sidney Rice (knee) sat out completely for the second straight day.

The Vikings carry only five receivers on the active roster, leaving veterans Bobby Wade and Robert Ferguson, who plays mostly on special teams.

“The receiving corps happens to be the one that’s getting hit with the injuries right now,” offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said. “Is it a concern? Yeah, it’s a concern.”
