Help wanted: Lions in search of backfield talent

Signing Rudi Johnson does not appear to be enough for Detroit. Continuing to look at running backs, the Lions had a busy day Tuesday.
For starters, they worked out former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, along with former Packers running back Vernand Morency and former Bills running back Dwayne Wright.
The Lions also visited with, but did not work out, former Bears running back Cedric Benson, who seems to be getting closer to a job. Benson has worked out for the Saints, drawn some mild interest from the Texans and Broncos, and now has visited with the Lions.
Any team trying to overcome an injury could do worse than a back such as Benson. But it’s startling to see how Benson, a former No. 4 overall pick, and Alexander, once the top back in the NFL, cannot find a job. Neither was invited to camp and neither, two-plus weeks into this season, has a job.
