The NFL suspended Buccaneers cornerback Elbert Mack for one game for violating player safety rules with a helmet-to-helmet hit on Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan.
It is Mack’s second violation for a flagrant hit. His first came in the final preseason game against former Houston quarterback Alex Brink, a hit that earned Mack a $5,000 fine for unnecessary roughness.
This time, the league determined that Mack launched himself into Ryan in a specific violation of the player safety rules. And it’s clear the league is taking a strong stance regarding player safety rules.
