Browns place Robaire Smith on IR

The Cleveland Browns placed Robaire Smith on the injured reserve list on Tuesday, two days after the starting defensive end suffered an Achilles injury in Sunday night’s loss to the Steelers.
Smith started all 18 games he appeared in for the Browns after signing as a free agent in 2007. The Browns were already playing without LB Antwan Peek, who is out for the season with a knee injury, and S Sean Jones, who will be sidelined for several more weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last week.
To fill Smith’s spot on the roster, the Browns signed DE Santonio Thomas, who was cut by the Patriots at the end of training camp.
