Griese earns another start; Garcia rumor shot down

Whatever truths may or may not have been behind last week’s internet rumors that the Bucs were shopping QB Jeff Garcia, Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden refuted them on Monday. Gruden said during his Monday press conference he has no knowledge of any talks.
“I have not,” he said when asked about speaking to other teams. “I have not talked to anybody about Jeff. There are a lot of reports out there and if someone ever came to me that had issued a report I would be happy to address it. But there’s a lot of reports out there that are erroneous and incorrect. Not to my knowledge.”
While Garcia served as the No. 3 QB in Sunday’s win over the Falcons, Brian Griese has earned another start. Gruden confirmed as much on Monday, giving Griese the nod against the Bears. Griese went 18-of-31 for 160 yards and a touchdown, but most importantly avoided turning the ball over (NFL GameDay highlights).
“I thought he did a nice job, really,” Gruden said of Griese. “We had the one turnover late in the football game. He managed the offense. He made some great decisions in the running game. We won the football game. I thought he was solid. I thought he played pretty good.”
