Bills still considering activating Peters

There are a couple of significant roster moves that could be made, and would have to be made, by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.

For starters, the Buffalo Bills are weighing whether to activate Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters, who just wrapped up his first week of practice following his seven-week holdout. Peters took the majority of reps all week and it’s hard to imagine Buffalo not activating him. But Bills coach Dick Jauron wants to make sure Peters is in football shape before activating him.

The other intriguing possibility regards Patriots practice-squad quarterback Matt Gutierrez, who signed with New England this week. Gutierrez was challenging Matt Cassel for the No. 2 quarterback job during the preseason before losing out on a roster spot with the Patriots.

Now Cassel is the starting quarterback and the Patriots are deciding whether to activate Gutierrez.

“That’s a possibility,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Friday. “We will talk about those things as we get to the end of the week, probably, tonight or tomorrow. We talk to the practice squad guys about being ready to go every week. We have seen plenty of those activations come up on Saturday or the end of the week.”

And we could see two more Saturday.
