Turner burns Lions, sets team record

It was quite the debut for Atlanta Falcons RB Michael Turner in Sunday’s 34-21 over the Detriot Lions. Turner rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in his first game for the Falcons, setting the franchise single-game rushing record and nearly posting the top Week 1 rushing performance in league history as well.

Turner broke the team record held by Gerald Riggs, who rushed for 202 yards on 35 attempts vs. the Saints on Sept. 2, 1984. Turner’s day also ranks second in NFL history for opening week rushing performances. O.J. Simpson rushed for 250 yards in Week 1 of the 1973 season for the Bills against the Patriots.
