Word of Burress’ contract spreads around NFL

Word of the five-year, $35 million contract signed by Plaxico Burress has already spread around the NFL, where other receivers are eyeing their payday.

In Buffalo, wide receiver Lee Evans is in the last year of his contract. In Detroit, wide receiver Roy Williams is in the last year of his. T.J. Houshmanzadeh is also in the last year of his in Cincinnati.

Each receiver knows new contracts of other receivers like they know their assignments. But not only are those receivers affected, so are others.

Anquan Boldin and Chad Ocho Cinco — two other Drew Rosenhaus clients, just like Burress — also want new deals. As the newest, the contract signed by Burress is the one that will now be eyed, duplicated and in extreme cases, exceeded.
