Washington Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot left Thursday night’s game against the Giants with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter with a lower back injury. Smoot was injured when he was kneed in the back by teammate Chris Horton while attempting to make a tackle on the sideline after a short reception by Derrick Ward. Smoot is questionable to return.
Smoot walked off the field under his own power. He left with team trainers at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but eventually returned to the sideline. His injury leaves the Redskins thin in the secondary; Smoot was starting in place of CB Shawn Springs, who was deactivated for the game because of a shin injury.
